Meghan Markle, British citizenship at risk for Prince Harry's wife.

While waiting to know if Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth will decide to intervene to facilitate Meghan's citizenship, seventy-two British MPs have written a letter to Prince Harry's wife to express their solidarity with her

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning a six-week trip to the United States before Christmas: the revelation came from the Sunday Times and wreaked havoc among Her Majesty's subjects. The reason? As reported by British tabloids, including the Sun, what is worrying is the fact that the Duchess of Sussex risks losing her British citizenship precisely because of her constant travel abroad with Harry. British law is in fact very stringent and provides that to be a British citizen, one must reside in the United Kingdom at least 270 days a year for the first three years.

Meghan Markle currently has a visa that must be renewed every two and a half years but, since she and Harry have said they intend to continue with their official travels and visits to the United States where the mother of she, Doria (with her they will in fact spend Thanksgiving), it is very likely that the 270 days of compulsory residence in the United Kingdom will not be respected by the Duchess. And that could seriously jeopardize his British citizenship.

While waiting to know if Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth will decide to intervene to facilitate Meghan's citizenship, seventy-two British MPs - from all over the political landscape - have written a letter to Prince Harry's wife to express their solidarity with her. in the face of the "antiquated colonial tones" that appear in the press against her and her family, as reported by CNN. In the letter, the parliamentarians write to Meghan that they supported her in "taking a stand against the often unpleasant and misleading nature of the stories published in a number of national newspapers about you, your character and your family".

Sometimes stories and headlines, the letter to Meghan Markle continues, "have tried to slander your character for no good reason as far as we can see," the letter added. "Even more worrying are the antiquated colonial tones, which can only be described in this way, of these stories", the parliamentarians observe, adding that this could not "be left unchallenged". Among the signatories are Labor MPs Jess Phillips, Stella Creasy and Holly Lynch, Conservative MPs Tracey Crouch and Antoinette Sandbach, Layla Moran of the Liberal Democrats and Joan Ryan of Change UK. In total, the signatories of the letter represent over a third of the 208 women in the House of Commons.
