Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take "a step back" from their role in the British family
In a statement, they announce that they are resigning from being "senior" members of the Crown to dedicate themselves to being "financially independent."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have issued a statement in which they announce their decision to "take a step back" in their activity within the British royal family and dedicate more to working to be financially independent. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex renounce certain privileges of belonging to the royal family, "after many months of reflection and internal discussions."
"We intend to step back as full members of the royal family and work to become financially independent." They assure that it is a "transition" to forge a new role in the British monarchy, although they clarify that they will continue to support the Queen and the Crown.
In the official statement, they also assure that they plan to divide their time "between the United Kingdom and North America," in order, among other things, to "raise our son within the royal tradition in which he was born, while providing for our family of the space necessary to focus on the next stage, including the launch of our new charity.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex say they will continue to report on "this exciting new move in due course" while continuing to collaborate with Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. "Until then, please accept our deep appreciation for your continued support," they say at the farewell.
