Why does Meghan Markle constantly touch her belly?
Since the pregnancy of Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry of England, was made public last October, the British press has analyzed in detail all behavior of the Duchess of Sussex. Now, the Daily Mail has noticed that Markle constantly repeats a gesture: touch or hold her belly. This newspaper has contacted some experts to try to find out the reason for this gesture.
Opinions vary. Harry Witchel, an expert in non-verbal language, says that Markle acts like a woman who is fully aware of the changes in her body. For her part, the psychologist Julianne Boutaleb believes that it is a positive sign and that it indicates that she has a good connection with her baby. "A woman who hugs her belly is showing that she is very committed, emotionally and physically, to her baby," she says.
Tamara Bugembe, a pediatrician, believes that touching the belly is good for the baby's development: "She may not know it, but her constant touch helps develop the baby's coordination and movements."
Outside of science, Holli Rubin, an expert in body image, says that the gesture denotes that she is delighted with her new body, while Katie Nicholl, an expert in the royal family, believes that Markle likes to feel 'fat' and that she is an instinctive gesture of protection.
