DOES A DOOR CLOSE, DOES A DOOR OPEN? FOR TRUMP, FINDING A HOME IS NOT AS EASY AS IT SEEMS

The inauguration of the new American president Joe Biden, scheduled for January 20, 2021, the day of Inauguration Day, literally puts the now former head of state Donald Trump at the door. Leaving the White House and discarding New York, where the family does not feel well-liked, the outgoing political leader seeks a new home: excluded from the Pennsylvania Avenue residence, where will Trump go to live with his wife Melania? According to rumors, Donald should prefer the resort of Mar-a-Lago to his New York penthouse and move, therefore, there, to Florida, with his wife.

Considered a National Historic Landmark in 1980, the Palm Beach villa was built in the 1920s by Marjorie Merriweather Post, imagined by the same American socialite as a secondary address to be reserved for US presidents during the colder months. With its 126 rooms and promoted as the winter alter ego of the White House, Mar-a-Lago, following the death of the first owner in 1973, however, ended up in the hands of Trump who acquired it in 1985, signing a very precise contractual clause.

He would never have turned it into permanent residence. Refurbished the original estate into a 118-room resort, no one could live there for more than seven consecutive days, up to three times a year. But today, while someone swears that he has spotted the outgoing First Lady personally directing the packing work, between boxes and cartons ready to leave for the sun in Palm Beach, the Washington Post, attentive to the ex-president's snares, writes that Trump in the last 4 years he would have already spent more than 130 days at the "club" of Mar-a-Lago. How to blame him?

The mansion, redesigned by Ivanka Trump in the style of Palazzo Chigi in Rome, would include 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms, 5 golf courses, more than a swimming pool and 3 anti-nuclear shelters. Without considering the numerous marble tables, Spanish mosaics, Carrara marbles, damask walls and gold sanitary ware. Small flaw? The accommodations in Mar-a-Lago would seem to be a bit too small for the couple who, albeit in separate rooms, slept among the grandeur of the White House.

But of White House, you know, there is only one: all the other American presidents no longer in office are well aware of this and, between more or less bourgeois choices, they had to find a new home to live in. If Barack Obama opted for a rental solution in a residential Washington neighborhood, before him Richard Nixon fled his native California for a quiet penthouse in the Big Apple in 1979. A few years later, Bill Clinton also moved to New York State who, instead, chose to buy a house for one million seven hundred thousand dollars in the small village of Chappaqua, in the middle of nature.

Away from everything and, above all, from everyone. Which, on the other hand, Trump does not seem to care in the least: joyful lover of the spotlight and political affair, the 45th president of the United States of America is ready to settle in Florida (he will not even participate in the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol):

There will be no welcome party waiting for him in Palm Beach. Mar-a-Lago's neighbors are already on a war footing (according to the New York Times, Nancy S DeMoss, who lives next door to the property, sent a letter to the municipality, Town of Palm Beach, via her attorney, Reginald Stanbaugh , arguing that the Trump Family has no right to live full-time at the resort). Melania would have already gotten her hands on, however, examining some alternatives in the area and even the school of her son Barron, not forgetting the other properties of the entrepreneur boasted around. What can I say, when a door is closed, does a door really open? Who knows ..
