FLOTUS or mere Hocus-Pocus? Fake news is passé, now there’s (fake?) news of faux Melania Trumps

The (allegedly) fake Flotus has struck again! Recent pics show the First Lady of the United States aboard Marine One, sporting a broad smile that’s a far cry from her trademark squinty scowl.

Apart from her inexplicable joy, what sets the (purported) imposter apart, social media sleuths point out, is her wide-set jaw and front veneers.

Before husband Donald Trump could dismiss #FakeMelania as ‘FAKE NEWS’, the trending hashtag resurrected the 2017, ‘Melania Trump Replacement Theory’, versions of which state she’s been swapped by a body double or replaced by a robot.

Especially incriminating is the president’s own confusion over his wife’s metaphysics. Like the time he told reporters Melania was ‘standing right there’, while pointing to an empty window. Or when he said wistfully at an event that ‘Melania had wanted to be here’, even though she was clearly beside him.

The internet was most suspicious, however, when he once pointed to her on stage, crying, ‘My wife, who is standing right here,’ in the desperately eager tone a man would only adopt when standing next to his wife’s body double.

Not since a reporter asked Russian President Vladimir Putin, ‘Are you real?’ with reference to his body double rumours, has the world pondered the verisimilitude of political figures in such a literal sense.
