Why Prince Harry gave Lady Diana's ring to brother William when he proposed to Kate Middleton
In the documentary "The Diana Story", Paul Burrell, Lady Diana's butler, reveals why Prince Harry decided to give his mother's engagement ring to Prince William.
A delicate attention. After Lady Diana's death, her sons, William and Harry, shared her jewelry, hoping one day to pass it on to their wives, or daughters. If Prince William set his sights on the Cartier watch that his mother had received from his grandfather Spencer on the occasion of his 21st birthday, Prince Harry wished to keep his engagement ring. Before finally giving it to his older brother, so he could pass it on to his wife, Kate Middleton. And this for a very specific reason.
It was Paul Burrell, Lady Diana's former butler, who recounted this episode in the Amazon Prime documentary, The Diana Story. "Prince Harry said, 'I remember holding Mum's hand when I was little and that ring always hurt because it was so big,'" recalls the butler, who adds having cried a lot following this statement from the prince, as reported by Cosmopolitan. But when Prince William decided to propose Kate Middleton in marriage, Prince Harry decided to give Lady Diana's engagement ring.
"Harry said to her, 'Wouldn't it be appropriate for her to have Mum's ring? Then one day that ring will sit on the throne of England,'" reported Paul Burrell. An altruistic gesture according to the butler, which was a characteristic peculiar to Lady Diana and which she was able to transmit to her sons. Especially since Prince Harry, for his part, could have kept this ring in order to offer it one day to his wife, Meghan Markle, who for her part had a very personal ring.
