Donald Trump served McDonald's to visiting football champions in the White House - here's where the president's obsession with fast food comes from
US President Donald Trump served McDonald's and Wendy's at the White House on Monday night — but it's far from the first time we've seen the US president enjoy fast food.
On Monday, Trump announced that he wanted to serve fast food to the Clemson Tigers football team when the college champions visited the White House. The move is in part due to the fact that most White House workers are on leave without being able to work or be paid during the government shutdown, which is now in its 24th day, Hogan Gidley told CNN , White House press secretary.
“I think we're going to serve pizza, McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. "It's not a joke. It will be interesting."
Photos from the event show a wide variety of foods packaged in boxes from McDonald's and Wendy's.
According to a video taken by Yahoo News correspondent Hunter Walker, Trump said there were burgers, as well as fries, pizza and more on self-service.
Trump loves fast food, according to many articles (and his social media). “I love them all, good stuff, great American food,” the president said in the video taken by Walker.
Fast food was a staple of the Trump regime throughout the presidential campaign. According to his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski and one of his campaign advisers David Bossie, the typical American president's order at Mc'Donalds consists of two Big Mac sandwiches, two Filet-O-Fish and a large chocolate milkshake. .

“Much like a professional athlete who has a routine to follow when preparing for a big game, 'Trump' would still have the same rituals,” Lewandowski told Business Insider earlier this year.
Trump had previously praised fast food chains for their cleanliness.
“A bad burger, and it's over for McDonald's. A bad burger, and Wendy's and all these other chains are bankrupt,” Trump had said during a public debate in 2016. “I like cleanliness, and I do. thinks it's better to go there than to places where you don't know where the food is coming from ”.
And, according to author Michael Wolff, ordering meals from fast food outlets helps Trump alleviate his fear of poisoning.
Trump "has long feared poisoning, and that's one of the reasons he enjoyed eating at McDonald's — no one knew he would come and the food was prepared safe," Wolff writes in The Fire and the Fury: Trump in the White House.
Trump has also appeared in a number of commercials for fast food chains over the years.
In 1995, Trump starred in a Pizza Hut commercial with his ex-wife Ivana, three years after their divorce. In 2002, he appeared in an advertisement for McDonald's with the character Grimace.
He also seems to love to put pressure on others to eat fast food, even if he's not paid. In 1995, Trump tried to force Madonna and fashion designer Donatella Versace to eat KFC with him while they were in Mar-a-Lago, Donatella Versace told Vogue.
