While Meghan Markle is the most influential member of the royal family when it comes to fashion, she still knows her classics. And among her icons, Lady Diana to whom she does not hesitate to refer often.

A few months ago, we learned that Meghan Markle was the member of the royal family with the most weight in fashion, ahead of Kate Middleton. And in terms of style, the Duchess of Sussex does not hesitate to pay tribute through these outfits to the one who, more than any other, modernized the image of the royal family: Lady Diana. Great admirer of the Princess of Wales when she was young, many of her friends had also declared before she married Prince Harry in Windsor that she had mourned the day of her death and in front of the broadcast national funeral on television, and to have a few books about her life in her library.

Being constantly in the spotlight brings its share of challenges, but since marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle rarely receives the benefit of the doubt unlike other members of the royal family and more specifically Kate Middleton. In a book published in May 2018, celebrity biographer Andrew Morton recalled the commonalities between the Duchess of Sussex and Lady Diana. We think of course of their notorious independence, their humanitarian work as well as their dress style which oscillates perfectly between relaxation and elegance. As soon as the book has been released, many media have put forward the idea that Meghan Markle had set her mind to become a Princess Diana 2.0, going so far as to deem her opportunistic or even upstart.

The question is therefore not whether Meghan Markle wants to be the new Diana, if only by the simple comparison with this woman idolized around the world must be overwhelming. This does not prevent her from making winks of clothing assumed as through the many tributes to the Princess of Wales on her wedding day: her bouquet made up of her favorite flowers, the empty place next to Prince William in the Royal Chapel of Saint George, or the highly symbolic ring she wore for her wedding evening. Rather than seeing them as a way of manipulating public opinion, perhaps we could make two assumptions. The first: Meghan Markle wants to salute one of her fashion icons. The second: by doing so, she also keeps a trace of Lady Diana in the life of Prince Harry.
