Donald Trump reveals his daughter-in-law Lara would run for North Carolina Senate
Trump made the comment during an impromptu speech at a fundraiser in Mar-A-Lago.
Former President Donald Trump has fueled speculation that his daughter-in-law Lara Trump will run for Senate in North Carolina.
Trump made the comment during an impromptu speech at a Mar-A-Lago fundraiser for Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
It has been speculated for quite some time that Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump, the former president's second son, will run for the North Carolina Senate seat currently held by Richard Burr, who announced in 2016 that he will not seek to return to elections in 2022. Burr voted to convict Trump at his second impeachment trial.

"I didn't exactly prepare for this, but it was happening and I heard everyone yelling," Trump said.
He then mentioned his daughter-in-law, who was one of the organizers of the event aimed at facilitating the rescue of dogs from China.
"I want to thank Lara, she has been so amazing ... you are running for Senate. I heard she is running for Senate!" he declared himself to the loud applause of the assembled crowd.
Lara has neither announced nor ruled out a candidacy for the Senate.
The former president said the fundraiser was "so great and important," adding: "I am with you 100%. We had many meetings in the White House and the Oval Office that had to do with saving and helping dogs."
Trump was the first president to not have a dog in the White House in more than 100 years, according to The Washington Post. Trump said when speaking about dogs to a crowd in 2019: “I wouldn't mind having one, honestly, but I don't have the time. How would I see myself walking a dog on the White House lawn? "
The goal of the fundraiser was to raise half a million dollars to rescue 500 dogs from China. It was introduced by Lauree Simmons, president and founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
The charity has spent nearly $ 2 million on Trump property over the past seven years and it was estimated, prior to the event, that the charity will spend another $ 225,000 on Mar-A-Lago this weekend. The Huffington Post reported.
Lara Trump began running for charity events in 2018 and Simmons was in the White House in 2019 during the signing ceremony of a bill against animal cruelty.
Simmons has shared posts on social media indicating her support for false claims that the election was stolen from Trump. On January 3, three days before the attack on the Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters, she posted an image on Facebook with the words: “EITHER WE WILL GET BACK to power or we will never be free again. No more polite requests. "
South Carolina senator and Trump confidant Lindsey Graham commented in mid-February that Burr's vote to convict Trump during his second impeachment made it "almost certain" that Lara Trump would be nominated to replace him.
She told Fox News: “I think the biggest winner from this whole impeachment trial is Lara Trump. My dear friend Richard Burr, who I like and have been friends with for a long time, just made Lara Trump a near-certain candidate for the North Carolina Senate seat to replace him should she run. He would certainly support her now because she represents the future of the Republican Party. "
The Independent has reached out to the North Carolina Republican Party seeking comment.
