Elizabeth II responds to Harry and Meghan's explosive interview: 'The family is sorry'
Buckingham Palace has reacted almost 48 hours later to the devastating statements of the Dukes of Sussex with Oprah Winfrey
A day after the United Kingdom could see the explosive interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with Oprah Winfrey, Buckingham Palace has responded in a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth. In the text you can read: "The whole family is saddened to know how difficult the last years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues that have been discussed, especially in the racial aspect, are worrying. Despite the fact that some recollections of what happened may vary, are taken very seriously and will be discussed privately by the family. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be very dear members of the family. "
According to The Times, after the controversial statements by Meghan and Harry, Elizabeth II met with Prince Charles and Prince William to coordinate a response. The Buckingham team had already prepared the statement today with the intention of calming down the spirits and bringing closer positions. An official note, which has finally been sent this afternoon, recording the love that the Royal Family has for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their son.
During the two-hour chat between Harry, Meghan and Oprah, the couple admitted the difficulties they have faced during their time as senior members of the British Royal Family; as well as their later life in California or the second baby they expect. One of the most talked about statements was the one made by the prince's wife about Archie: "In those months when she was pregnant (...) we had a series of conversations that 'she would not be given security, she would not be given a title ... 'and concerns were also shared about how dark her skin would be when she was born. " The Duchess has not revealed who or who the participants in this discussion were: "I think it would be very harmful for them ... but those were conversations that the family had with Harry."
Since the interview was broadcast in the United States on Sunday, there was great expectation for the response of Buckingham Palace, but the Royal Family have continued with their agenda in silence. Yesterday, on the occasion of Women's Day, the Duchess of Cambridge was part of a telematic chat. This Tuesday it was Prince Charles who made a public appearance when he went to one of the vaccination centers in the United Kingdom. During the interview, Harry explained how he got along with his father: "I feel really disappointed because he has been through something similar. He knows how it hurts and, moreover, Archie is his grandson," Diana's young son lamented about his father. "Fixing that relationship will continue to be one of my priorities," he added.
For her part, Meghan gave Oprah a different version of what happened with Kate days before her wedding, denying what was published in some media, in which it was claimed that she had made the Duchess of Cambridge cry. "No, no. She happened the opposite. And I'm not saying it to discredit anyone," she clarified. "It was a very complicated week for the wedding and she was upset about something, yes, it is true, about the dresses of the bridesmaids. She made me cry and hurt my feelings." However, she soon fixed it: "She apologized, bought me flowers and wrote a note apologizing. She did what I would do if she gets over that I have hurt someone."
