Obama has a new style, and we love it
The former president of the United States had us used to seeing him always in a suit, and without several, not even with the same colors.
Now his style has changed and he is modernizing. And we love this new Barack.
Since he left the Oval Office, Barack Obama has tried his hand at many other post-presidential realms, including being a writer, Richard Branson's party companion, and a Netflix producer. But a photo that was taken in mid-December in Malaysia, and that has now come to light, reveals something much more interesting (for us) than that. It seems that he was looking forward to ending his presidency so he could really dress, so now Obama has a new style.
Obama was never going to risk it for his clothes, he himself admitted that he did not care. "You see, I only wear gray or blue suits," he told 'Vanity Fair' in 2012. And those looks in which he was not wearing a suit used to be made up of the most fatherly pants possible (faded and the wrong fit, ready to embarrass you during a pajama party. But his most recent photo, about three years after leaving The office suggests that Obama is beginning to take an interest in clothing.
The look: adidas Stan Smith sneakers, army green chinos above the ankles and a white polo shirt. It looks like a J.Crew catalog has blown up on him. It's the kind of image that people will look at again 50 years from now the way they now look at those John F. Kennedy photos in which he appears in a polo shirt, white sneakers, and pants cut enough to see some calf. It seems that the presidents that are style icons are made of this paste.
It should be noted that Obama has a new style, and this has moved towards much more informal paths. He is not going to win the MVP for the best dressed man, but at least he should be taken into account in the category “Players who have improved the most”. Leather jackets, like the ones he wore at the D.C. or in a Toronto Raptors game, his new outfits have played an important role.
He was also seen wearing a bomber jacket with the number 44 embroidered, from the firm Rag & Bone, of New York. As soon as Zion Williamson started the first seconds of the game, his outfit had already become the anecdote of the night: a president with such a good and elegant image felt like a breath of fresh air as the era of the Trump fashion. Even during post-presidential speeches calling for suits, the 44 was up to the dress code. In 2017, he showed up in Italy to attend the World Seed & Chips Global Food Innovation Summit and did the same thing as the Romans: unbutton his shirt.
We can almost see the former president glancing at menswear from the past decade, catching up now that he has a little more free time. He found out there are some socks that don't show up and he found the right pair of tight chinos that fit him. He is the spitting image of a retired father? 58-year-old trying to dress well. If we were in 2012, it would only need a double jacket to reach the level of men's clothing.
The outfit takes us back to those moments when we were with our friends at the mall checking if Club Monaco and J. Crew were still a safe bet to find a great look. Since then, we've gone on to give our clothing a wilder twist, often purposely challenging the idea of good taste to better reflect our current dysfunctional age. But it may still be early 10's in Obama's mind (or his closet). And there really isn't a better thought than that.
