Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be 'cut off' from the royal family over Prince Charles' plan to 'streamline the monarchy' and save money
PRINCE Harry and Meghan could be sensational 'abandoned' from the royal family in a rationalization of the monarchy, an expert says.
Famous royal biographer Angela Levin says the Prince of Wales is set to "reduce the monarchy" in the future to save money.
The Mail Online reports that a lite version could only see Charles, Camilla, William, Kate, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte as members of the royal family.
Others may be prompted to seek other means of supporting themselves and may end up losing their much-valued titles and patronages.
Ms Levin told talkRADIO: “Prince Charles has long wanted to downsize the monarchy to cut costs and make people worth the money they got from the taxpayer.
“I imagine that could be the time when Harry and Meghan are abandoned by the royal family.
“I think the outer edge, which the Queen wanted to keep together for a very long time for sentimental reasons, which at her age she didn't particularly particularly want a change which I think is understandable.
“But he wants to change and I think he will. "
The claims come after another expert said Harry would find it difficult to "heal the wounds" with his family as Charles and William fear conversations they are having with him "will immediately leak."
Royal commentator Phil Dampier said it would be difficult for those close to Harry to speak openly to him after details of private conversations leaked.
It is understood that William and Charles chose to speak to the Duke of Sussex together after Philip's funeral, fearing the discussion would be 'misinterpreted'.
And Mr Dampier said: “One of Charles and Williams’s big fears is that any discussions they have with Harry will be immediately disclosed.
“They will fear that if they go into specifics the next thing they know will be in the public domain, which will make it extremely difficult to heal wounds in the long term. "
Harry spent time with his father and brother after Philip's funeral. However, it is claimed that little progress has been made and that relations remain icy.
Mr Dampier said: “I doubt the conversation they had was more than the first tentative steps in trying to mend their relationship after the Oprah Winfrey interview.
“But all the same, before we get into the details, they will fear that everything they say will come out.
“Harry and Meghan seem to have everything they could possibly need or need.
"They have a nice house in California, they have a son, a daughter on the way, they have the means to make a lot of money, they have a platform.
"So I'm not quite sure what they want, but I would have thought that the only thing Harry would want would be to mend his relationship with his family.
The fallout from the couple's conversation with Oprah continues for well over a month after it aired.
William would have a hard time moving forward after the TV interview, in which they accused a senior royal of making a racist comment and claimed Kate Middleton made Meghan cry.
Harry also said his brother and father were "trapped" by the monarchy - and said his relationship with William had become a "spatial" one.
The upheaval is said to have worsened after Meghan's boyfriend revealed that discussions between William and Harry following Oprah's interview were not "productive".
Gayle King told an American TV show she spoke to Meghan and Harry after the conversation aired - and revealed the Duke of Sussex had been embroiled in a difficult conversation with his brother and father.
Royal commentator Russell Myers told ITV Lorraine: “Charles and William are still very injured. "
Meanwhile, Mr Dampier said the leaks contrasted completely with repeated requests for confidentiality from Meghan and Harry.
And mending the relationship will be "extremely difficult" unless the couple stop "negotiating through public media," he said.
“When it comes to his relationships with his own family, the intimacy seems to disappear,” he said.
Royal commentator Angela Levin told The Sun earlier that any private conversation with the couple would appear on social media or in the press "in no time."
“I think the Royal Family would be crazy talking to Meghan and Harry,” she said.
“In no time it would be published in magazines and on social media. "
And she claimed the couple were "obsessed with the world" - and privacy is "the last thing they want".
Meghan and Harry have faced enormous media attention from around the world, despite stepping down as royals and moving to Los Angeles.
Millions of people around the world will be desperate to see the family reunited - with photos of Kate, William and Harry speaking after the funeral, raising hopes that the apparent feud is finally over.
