Prince Philip: funeral on Saturday, with Harry but without Meghan
The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will not be a state funeral according to his wishes. The ceremony will be held in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Prince Harry will be present, but not his wife Meghan Markle.
Prince Philip's funeral will take place next Saturday, April 17. They will take place at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. GMT) at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, where Elizabeth II's husband passed away on Friday, Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday evening.
The private ceremony will be broadcast on television and Prince Harry, currently in California, will attend but not his pregnant wife Meghan Markle, it is specified. A minute of silence will be observed across the country at the start of the ceremony. The funeral will most certainly be celebrated in a "reduced" format.
The code name for the burial is Operation Forth Bridge, named after one of Scotland's major rivers, which makes sense to the Prince and Duke of Edinburgh, Le Parisien said.
The husband Queen Elizabeth II for more than seven decades did not want a state funeral.
“The College of Arms,” an organization involved in implementing royal protocols, said his coffin would not be on display to the public. His remains will be laid to rest in Windsor Castle before a funeral in Saint George's Chapel, "in accordance with the custom and wishes of His Royal Highness".
After the ceremony, Prince Philip will be buried, according to his wishes, in the gardens of the Frogmore mansion, where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert are already buried, according to Le Parisien.
Harry at the funeral, not Meghan
Who will be the members of the royal family present for this funeral? The question was particularly posed for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, settled in the United States and withdrawn from the monarchy and cold with the family.
Prince Harry will finally go to his grandfather's funeral, but not Meghan Markle.
Separately, in order to "allow as many family members as possible to attend the funeral," Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not attend the funeral.
In these times of pandemic, the public is encouraged not to go near the royal residences to avoid crowds, but rather to make a donation to an association. A book of condolences has also been put online.
