The contradictions in the scandal of actress Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump

There are several changes in the discourse that those involved in the scandal between the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the porn actress Stormy Daniels have had. These are the most prominent twists in history.

In recent weeks, the United States has witnessed a spiral of contradictions that make it difficult to understand the scandal that involves President Donald Trump in the payment of $ 130,000 in exchange for the silence of the porn actress Stormy Daniels.

Everyone involved in this plot has changed, at least once, their version of events. All except the actress, who has held the same story. According to her, everything begins in July 2006, when Stormy and Trump maintain an alleged relationship that lasts until 2007.

In November 2016, a few days before the presidential elections that ended up giving victory to Donald Trump, the personal lawyer of the US president paid Daniels $ 130,000 in exchange for her silence. This is the version kept by Stormy Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford.

On January 12, 2018, The Wall Street newspaper published on the front page that Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, would have paid the porn actress $ 130,000 in exchange for her not talking about an alleged sexual encounter with the president. The White House and Cohen himself try to divert attention by questioning the credibility and professionalism of the medium. They deny everything.

However, on February 13, the lawyer Michael Cohen, cornered, changes his mind, and admits to having "facilitated", he says, this payment from his own pocket, completely disassociating President Trump from these events. Of course, it makes it clear that at no time has any crime been incurred since the money has never left the campaign, he says "neither the Trump Organization, nor the campaign have reimbursed me the payment, directly or indirectly." If so, a federal crime would have been incurred. The FBI then begins an investigation to clarify the origin of the money that has been paid to Stormy Daniels.

On February 27, secretly and to prevent Daniels from filling the media with her story, Trump's lawyer, Cohen, gets an arbitration award, that is, a reinforcement of the confidentiality agreement. For the first time, the White House spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee, speaks about the $ 130,000 and assures that "there is no knowledge of any payment by the president, and he has denied these accusations." Journalists are not happy with this answer and continue to ask Sarah Huckabee about money, they want to know if President Donald Trump is aware of everything. She replies: "not that I know of."

Daniels immediately responds to this movement, and on March 6, the porn actress filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump in the Superior Court of Los Angeles to invalidate the confidentiality agreement that she supposedly has agreed with him. She assures that the president never signed it, and therefore it has no validity whatsoever. With this, Daniels only pretends to be free to tell her story in front of the media.

On April 5, for the first time, a journalist asked the US president directly if she was aware of this payment. He flatly denies it and tells reporters that it is his personal lawyer who can answer these questions. When asked if he knows where the money came from, Trump again stands firm: "No."

Four days later, on April 9, a team of Federal agents searched Michael Cohen's offices and home for documents proving the payment to Daniels for his silence. The FBI seizes this and other materials. At this point, Trump begins to distance himself from his attorney. Days later he claims that Cohen does only "a very tiny part" of his "legal work".

On May 2, on Fox News and in prime time, viewers see statements that put the president and his team in check. Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who has been part of President Donald Trump's legal team for less than 15 days, assures in his interview that Trump would have reimbursed Michael Cohen the $ 130,000 he paid to Daniels, "during a period of Several months". In addition, the former mayor points out, "Trump did not know the details, but he was aware of the general agreement." Giuliani has just contradicted his client, who until now had claimed not to be aware of the transaction and did not know where the money came from. He again insists that there is no crime since “it is not campaign money. They channeled it through a law firm and the president reimbursed it. "

On May 3, early in the morning, Donald Trump speaks through his Twitter account. This time the version is completely different. Using 3 tweets, he assures that he delivered a monthly advance to Cohen, according to him, detached from the campaign, through which, through reimbursement, the lawyer paid a confidentiality agreement. He maintains that he "had nothing to do with the campaign." Trump claims that he did it "to defend himself against false and extortionate accusations about an alleged‘ affair ’" in 2006.

The contradiction reappears in less than 24 hours. The next day, May 4, Donald Trump declares that Giuliani is "a great guy" but "has only been a day" practicing as his new lawyer. The former mayor, on his part, also tries to distance himself from his words and assures that his references "did not describe what I understood the president knew, but what I knew about the matter." A few days later, during an interview, he claims that Donald Trump had learned of Cohen's reimbursement only a week ago, hence he had not recognized it earlier.
