Bill Gates divorces wife Melinda Gates after 27 years of marriage
It’s the end of a long relationship. Microsoft founder Bill Gates is separating from his wife Melinda after 27 years of marriage. They had three children together.
Long story that ends: Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, just announced their separation on social media. "After a lot of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we made the decision to end our marriage," they announced in a message on Twitter. After meeting at Microsoft (he is the founder of the company while she was in charge of marketing before marrying him), they were married on January 1, 1994, and had three children together: an older girl, Jennifer Katharine (1996), a boy, Rory John (1999) and a younger girl, Phœbe Adele (2002).
“Over the past 27 years, we have raised three amazing children,” they continue, before discussing their work and their foundation. Indeed, Bill Gate and his wife both work for Microsoft and together created the Bill and Melinda-Gates Foundation, a philanthropic humanist foundation, in January 2000. “We have built a foundation that works around the world to empower everyone to lead healthy and productive lives, ”they add.
They will continue to work together
Despite their separation, Jennifer's parents, Rory and Phoebe will continue their humanitarian projects: "We continue to share a belief in this mission and we will continue our work together at the foundation," said the former couple. Bill and Melinda Gates, whose fortune is estimated at more than 130 billion dollars according to Forbes, are currently the largest philanthropists in the world: they have pledged to give more than 90% of their fortune to charity.
Despite this vision of life that unites them, they no longer see each other as a couple: "We no longer believe that we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of this life", they wrote very clearly, before concluding by asking for peace in this hard time of their life for them and for their loved ones: "We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life".
