Ellen DeGeneres to stop her show in 2022
Celebrity host Ellen DeGeneres announced on Wednesday that the next season of her show The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be the last, as she wants to take on new challenges.
The popular afternoon talk show, launched in 2003, has seen a significant drop in ratings recently.
Last year, the show and its host were targeted with accusations of harassment and allegations of a toxic work environment.
The year 2022 coincides with the end of Ellen DeGeneres' contract with Warner Bros., which distributes her show.
When you're a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged, and as great as this show is and fun as it is, it's no longer a challenge, Ellen DeGeneres told Hollywood Reporter magazine, who first broke the news.
Ratings down by more than 40%
The host, who built her brand on the motto "Be Kind", opened her 18th season last September with a long apology.
Three members of The Ellen DeGeneres Show's production crew left ship over the past summer following allegations of a dysfunctional workplace and inappropriate behavior, including sexual misconduct and insensitivity to racist remarks.
According to Nielsen figures, the number of viewers of the show has fallen by more than 40% this season, from 2.6 million to 1.5 million.
