Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle really deny this title for Archie?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie was not given a royal title when he was born, which surprised many around the world. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed the move during their interview with Oprah Winfrey which aired on March 7. “They didn't want him to be a prince or a princess, which would be different from protocol. It was really difficult. ..This lasted for the last few months of our pregnancy where I'm going, ‘Wait a second.
How it works? ... If he doesn't want to be a prince, he has to be safe, "" Meghan said, according to BBC News. Meghan went on to reveal that there had been conversations about her unborn baby's complexion and suggested that race may have played a role in the palace's decision not to give Archie a title.
Shortly after, a palace source responded to the comments, telling Us Weekly, “The palace says it has nothing to do with race. Under the royal protocol established by King George V, only those in direct line of succession to the throne obtain the title [of] prince or princess. As per royal protocol, Archie would receive the title of prince when his grandfather Prince Charles becomes king. It is still possible that Archie will become a prince
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would have had the choice of the title for their son, Archie, but they rejected it outright. A source told The Telegraph that the newborn was to be given the title Earl of Dumbarton, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not want to give their son a title containing the word 'stupid'. “They didn't like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it started with the word 'stupid'. They were worried about what it might look like, ”a source told the outlet. Another source added that "it was not only Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it bothered Harry as well."
Meanwhile, a Daily Mail report claims Prince Charles does not want Archie to be given the title of prince - or any title for that matter - because he is trying to "bring down" the monarchy. “Charles never concealed that he wanted a lean monarchy when he became king. He realizes that the public does not want to pay for a huge monarchy, ”a source told the outlet.
The Royal Family have not responded directly to any gossip about Archie's title - or lack thereof.
