Lady Diana: why couldn't she change her hairstyle?
If Lady Diana has sported a short haircut her entire life, it wasn't on her own accord. Discover the reasons that forced him to keep this hair rigor.
Married in 1981 at the age of 20 to Prince Charles, Lady Diana whose real name is Diana Spencer has always kept the same hairstyle throughout her union. Richard Dalton, her hairdresser during her first ten years with the royal family, revealed the reasons which pushed her to never change her hairstyle to the American magazine "Best Life" and they are rather surprising.
A trendy princess
Even though Princess Diana's sartorial look captured all the attention during her 16 years of marriage, it was her hair that was rocking the English tabloids. In 1984, as she had been growing her hair out since Prince Harry was born, Lady Di and her regular hairdresser decided to twist her growing lengths into a low bun for the opening of Parliament in November. This new makeover caused a sensation in England and all the newspapers spoke of nothing more than that. The next day, the princess this time wore her hair down in side-hair with a bar on the side, which caused a real media buzz.
A princess who makes shade
According to Richard Dalton, this craze around Diana's hair changes had "hit the queen hard." Both therefore wondered about what could well create this media whirlwind:
We were overwhelmed by all this commotion (...) After that we decided to be very careful because the slightest hair change took enormous proportions.
Following this episode, Diana did not attempt any hair transformation. Her hairdresser was touching up her haircut every other day so that there were no more radical changes that could make the headlines and therefore overshadow Queen Elisabeth II.
Diana Spencer therefore remained the princess with short hair until her death in 1997.
