Salma Hayek talks like never before about her age and her physique: "[My breasts] keep growing"
The Mexican actress defended the importance of respecting the individuality of each woman and criticized that they want to impose an "expiration date."
When Salma Hayek began to notice the first signs of menopause, she soon visited her doctor to find out about the symptoms and effects that her body would go through. The Mexican actress was surprised by the long list of possible symptoms that this condition can cause.
"The questions were terrifying," revealed Hayek in an interview for Red Table Talk. "They would ask me things like Are your ears growing and is there hair growing from them? Are you growing a mustache and beard? Do you get irritated easily? Do you cry for no reason? Are you gaining weight and not losing it no matter what you do? Are you shrinking? And then they ask you, is your vagina dry? "
But among the symptoms that most surprised the 54-year-old actress, was one that had not been mentioned but that she was experiencing: the growth of her breasts.
"The ... teas grow a lot," she explained. "For some women they shrink, but for some women who gain weight, your te..as grow, and for other women that when they have children and breastfeed your te..as grow and do not reduce, and in some cases when you are at menopause, they grow back. And I just happen to be one of those women that happened every time! "
Hayek revealed over the years, there has been a lot of speculation about possible plastic surgery on her breasts, due to her weight fluctuating during her pregnancy and now during menopause, according to People.
"A lot of people said that I had a breast augmentation, and I don't blame them! My tits were smaller! As was the rest of my body," she said. "But they have just grown. Many, many sizes. And my back has really suffered from it. Not many people talk about this."
The actress, who stars in the film Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, does not hide that she has constant mood swings and that she has suffered from hot flashes due to menopause, as it happens to millions of women at this stage of her life.
"I've had those episodes, I still kind of have them, but you have to identify those moments, take a deep breath and say, 'Okay, this will pass. You have to keep your composure. And hot flashes are not fun."
Even with everything that her body has to go through, Hayek assures that aging is not a problem for her.
"There is no expiration date for women. That has to be eliminated. Because you can [be successful] at any age. You can sustain yours at any age, you can dream at any age, you can be romantic at any age," she said convinced . "We have the right to be loved for who we are where we are [in life]. We are not here just to make babies, we are not here just to care for a man. We are not here to serve everyone around us and then when the kids leave home… .it's almost like an expiration date for a woman. It's a misunderstanding that has been going around for centuries. "
