The twilight of Johnny Depp: his career sinks as he continues his legal battle against Amber Heard
The actor turns 58 immersed in several lawsuits against his ex-wife and without any work in sight. After being accused of mistreatment Warner Bros did without him for the saga 'Fantastic beasts'.
Last November Johnny Depp lost the legal battle he had fought against The Sun for the previous two years and his career, already battered, ended up sinking. The actor had denounced the British tabloid for defamation after calling him a "wife abuser". And the judge dismissed his claim considering that the article was "substantially true" as it came from information provided by his ex-wife Amber Heard (35). Warner Bros then did without the interpreter for the third part of Fantastic Beasts and immediately announced that Mads Mikkelsen would replace him.
To recap, Depp and Heard began their romantic relationship in 2011 during the filming of The Rum Diaries. In February 2015 the couple walked down the aisle, but just a year later, in May 2016, Amber filed for divorce and obtained a temporary restraining order against Johnny alleging that he had verbally and physically assaulted her during the relationship, often under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Depp denied her allegations and in August they reached an agreement. "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always united by love," the two said in a joint statement. "Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any attempt of physical or emotional harm," they added. But after finalizing the divorce in January 2017, the allegations of abuse resurfaced with the aforementioned article in The Sun and an editorial that the actress herself published in The Washington Post at the end of 2018.
This Wednesday, June 9, Depp will turn 58 with several pending legal battles against Heard. After the British Court of Appeal denied the actor the possibility of appealing the judgment on his lawsuit to The Sun, Depp maintains his defamation complaint against Heard in the United States for the publication of it in the Post. In addition, last March he started a new process against his ex-wife to find out if she really donated the close to seven million dollars that she obtained in the divorce. To achieve this, he has required the Union for Civil Liberties of America to publicly reveal whether the actress actually paid them their corresponding part of the aforementioned amount.
Experts consulted by Insider assure that Depp's career will hardly go back again, especially if he continues to be involved in litigation with Heard. Neither Disney, the former home of him as the protagonist of Pirates of the Caribbean, nor Warner Bros, producer of the Harry Potter films, want to have anything to do with an actor accused of sexist violence who has acknowledged abusing drugs and alcohol. And although he recently presented the film The Minamata Photographer, according to IMDB he currently has no projects in development.
During the trial with The Sun, Depp admitted that he drank excessively, used drugs and vandalized hotel rooms, but denied that he mistreated Heard. As reported by The Guardian, the actor repeatedly insisted that he had never behaved violently and claimed that his aspiration was to be a "southern gentleman."
Previously, Depp had already spoken in the media about his addictions. According to him, his problems began when he was 11 years old when he started taking the pills for his mother's nerves. At 12 he was already smoking and at 14 he had tried "all the drugs" he had found. And throughout his life he has drunk alcohol in large quantities.

In regards to their previous relationships, both Winona Ryder (49) and Vanessa Paradis have publicly defended Depp. Ryder, who dated the actor between 1990 and 1994 after starring together in Eduardo Manoestijeras, said she was "absolutely shocked, confused and upset" when she learned of Heard's claims against Depp because they were "very different" from the reality she had experienced. during their relationship, "one of the most significant" of his life.
"I understand that it is very important that I speak from my own experience, since obviously I was not there during his marriage to Amber (...) The idea that he is a violent person is the furthest thing from the Johnny that I know and love. No I can understand these accusations. He was never violent to me. He was never abusive to me. And he has never been those things to anyone I have ever seen. I really only know him as a really good man, an incredibly caring and extremely caring guy who was very protective of me and with the people he loved, and I felt very, very safe with him, "said Ryder, according to La Vanguardia.
Vanessa Paradis (48), Depp's partner between 1998 and 2012 and mother of his two children, Lily-Rose Melody Depp (22) and John Christopher 'Jack' Depp III (19), said for her part: "I have known Johnny since more than 25 years ago. During all these years he has been a kind, caring, generous and non-violent person and father. On movie sets, actors, directors and entire teams adore him because he is humble and respectful to everyone, as well as to be one of the best actors we've ever seen. "
"I am aware of the things that Amber Heard has publicly accused Johnny of for over four years, but this is nothing like the real Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say that he never was violent or abusive to me, "said the actress and singer, who also met Depp during a shoot, in her case that of The Ninth Door.
