Elon Musk and Grimes "semi-split" after three years of relationship and a child together
The Tesla and SpaceX founder and the Ukrainian-Canadian singer are raising the little X Æ A-12 together for the time being
After just over three years of relationship and a child together, tech mogul Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, and singer Grimes announced on Friday that they are no longer together. But, as is usual in them, they have said that their separation is something special.
It has been the businessman who has confirmed the separation in the US media Page Six, explaining that they are "semi-separated." "But we still love each other, we see each other frequently and we are on very good terms," he said, who has also clarified some of the reasons for the breakup and said that at the moment they are raising their son together.
"For the most part, my job at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas, or traveling across the ocean, and his job," he says of Grimes, "is mostly in Los Angeles. For now she is staying with me and Baby X is in the next room, "he said, referring to the son they have in common, 16 months.
The couple - 49 years old he and her 33 - began dating in the spring of 2018, or at least it was there that they made their relationship official, on the red carpet at the New York Metropolitan Museum gala; in fact, at the gala held a couple of weeks ago they could also be seen, although posing together. It was in 2018 when Grimes - half Canadian (specifically Quebec) and half Ukrainian, whose real name Claire Elise Boucher - and Musk walked hand in hand and made their romance public. In early May 2020, their first and only child was born, whom they named X Æ A-12, hence Musk now refers to him simply as X.
The birth of the baby, a little over a year ago, was surprising because of the name he had received. They explained its meaning, and Grimes recounted that the X stood for "the unknown variable," while Æ referred to the "elven spelling of Ai," which means "love and / or artificial intelligence." It was Musk who decided the numerical part of the name, since A-12 represents the "forerunner of the SR-17, which is the couple's favorite aircraft because it has no weapons, no defenses, just speed," Grimes explained. "Excellent in battle but not violent," he added. On social media, many asked Musk what to call the boy, hence why he calls him X.
Weeks after their arrival, the couple had to legally change the name of the newborn, since California law does not allow to register people with a name that includes figures, but they must be written on birth certificates "using the 26 letters alphabetical of the English language ”, although apostrophes and hyphens are valid. The couple played with the Roman numerals and the child was inscribed as X Æ A-Xii
The little boy was Musk's sixth child, who had six from his first marriage to author Justine Wilson. The first, a boy named Nevada Alexander, was born in 2002 and passed away within 10 weeks of sudden death. Later the couple had twins and, later, triplets. They separated in 2008, and then he married (twice, in 2010 and 2013) a British actress named Tallullah Riley, with whom he had no children. In 2017 Musk dated actress Amber Heard for almost a year and a half when she separated from Johnny Depp. They also parted ways due to agendas.
