Newborn daughter of Princess Beatriz will have a royal title
Buckingham Palace announced the baby's birth on Monday afternoon
The newborn daughter of Princess Beatriz and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will have an official title, passed down by her father's family.
The royal baby, who was born on Saturday, will receive the Italian title of Nobile Donna, which translates to Noble Woman.
Edoardo, whose official title is Count, is from a family that was part of the Italian nobility before the country became a republic in 1946.
His family keeps the titles, but does not use them in everyday life. As titles are passed down from the paternal side of the family, the couple's baby, whose name has not been disclosed, will inherit one.
In contrast, Beatriz's nephew, the son of her sister Princess Eugenia, August, has no title because her father, Jack Brooksbank, does not own one.
Beatriz and Edoardo tied the knot on July 17, 2020 in a secret ceremony in Windsor, less than a year after they first announced their engagement.
Her marriage meant that Beatrice, who is the eldest daughter of the Duke of York, inherited the title of Countess and that of Nobile Donna from her husband's side of the family.
Edoardo's father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, told Mail Online in 2019: “Edoardo is the only male descendant who brings the family to the next generation.
“He is an earl. His wife will automatically become Countess and any of his children will be Earl of Nobile Donna. "
Buckingham Palace announced the birth of the royal baby on Monday afternoon and said in a statement: “Their Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe and secure arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18 September. in 2021, at 11:42 p.m., at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.
“The baby weighs 6 pounds, 2 ounces (3.28 kilograms).
“The grandparents and great-grandparents of the new baby have been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the hospital staff for their wonderful care.
"Her Royal Highness and her daughter are doing well, and the couple is eager to introduce her daughter to her older brother Christopher Woolf."
