Remember Lady Gaga's Controversial Meat Dress? This is the fate now
Remember the controversial meat dress that once wrapped Lady Gaga's body? Made from real meat, the dress is still alive today. It's just that it doesn't look like it used to.
Talking about Lady Gaga is never separated from the choice of quirky and unique clothing, one of which is the meat dress. The 'Poker Face' singer wore it for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
Nine years later, this dress designed by Franc Fernandez has become a collection of Haus of Gaga exhibits at Park MGM, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Held since early June, the exhibition presents a row of iconic clothing that has accompanied Lady Gaga's appearance as a successful singer since 2008.
So, how does the meat dress stay durable even with age?
According to Nicola Formichetti, designer and friend of Lady Gaga who is also the curator of the exhibition collection, the meat dress still survives because it goes through several stages. "We store them in the freezer for a certain time and then dry them so they can be stored properly," Nicola told InStyle.
However, Nicola does not deny that the freshness of the meat cannot be maintained as before. "The shape is now like a dress made of beef jerky," he added.
After being worn by Lady Gaga, the dress immediately caused various reactions. In addition to being amazed, not a few are also criticizing and sneering. Animal rights organization PETA rebuked the singer-actress and called her fashion choices a form of violence against animals.
A few days later when she was a guest on The Ellen Show, Lady Gaga immediately dismissed PETA's statement. According to the woman whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, the accusation is misrepresented because she is a vegetarian.
The reason for wearing the dress is as a form of protest against the United States government's 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy which is considered highly discriminatory against LGBT people who serve in the military.
"The dress has many interpretations. But for me, if we don't stand up for what we believe in, if we don't fight for our rights, sooner or later we will rot like this flesh," he stressed.
