Charlize Theron reveals the most important character she's ever played
Actress Charlize Theron has no doubts when choosing which character has most influenced her throughout her long career.
If we review the film career of Charlize Theron, the logical thing would be that her favorite character was Aileen Wuornos from the movie Monster (2003) by Patty Jenkins, for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress. But she is proud to admit that Mad Max's Imperator Furiosa: Fury Road (2015) is her biggest role.
Furiosa is a war captain for Immortan Joe in the Mad Max reboot. She is presented as an unhappy subordinate who waits for her moment to free herself from his cruelty. Although she serves Joe, she quickly turns on him to free the five wives, Joe's female concubines. The role required a great deal of physical activity on the part of Charlize Theron and she performed many of hers of her own stunts. Plus she drove the movie's amazing war rig.
During a Comic-Con @ Home Panel dedicated to the actress, Charlize Theron discussed Furiosa's impact on pop culture and what the role means to her now, five years later.
Furiosa changed her trajectory as an actress.
Playing the brave warrior from Mad Max allowed her to continue making stories that were action roles with female protagonists. She also continues her work producing and acting in films where she can bring representation to gender and change the idea of what the female gender is. Charlize Theron hopes to help improve the future of cinema by making more complicated and realistic female characters like Furiosa the norm in movies.
Charlize Theron's performance as Furious in Mad Max: Fury Road, and as a super spy in Atomic (2017), places her at the forefront of the push for greater inclusion and diversity in Hollywood. Now it is speculated that there will be a new Furiosa film as the absolute protagonist, but it seems that it will not be Charlize Theron who will play it, since they are looking for a younger actress.
