Jennifer Lopez Is Totally Overrated, According To Howard Stern

Howard and his long-time Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers dissected J-Lo's smash-hit "On The Floor."

Given that it has just been announced that Jennifer Lopez will receive The People's Icon Award at the 2020 E! People's Choice Awards, it's safe to say that she's a massively influential star. Of course, we didn't really need this news to tell us that. After all, Jenny From The Block has sold millions of albums, had several huge singles, been a host of American Idol and a successful actor, has several beauty lines, models, is a fashion icon, and still looks outrageously attractive well into her 50s. Honestly, all of that is stupidly impressive.

But there's one major celebrity who doesn't think so... That would be legendary radio show host, best-selling author, film producer, former America's Got Talent host, and brilliant interviewer, Howard Stern.

Stern Show fans know that Howard has been particularly brutal to Jennifer Lopez over the years. And he has some very specific reasons why, both from an external judgemental position, as well as from a one-on-one experience he had with her...

Howard Hates Her Music

One thing that we've learned from Howard Stern's radio show is the fact that he's not a fan of most modern music. He as recently won over by Machine Gun Kelly, but he raves about very few modern artists with the exception of Lady Gaga, Adam Levine, Natalie Maines, Sia, and Brandie Carlile. While Howard is obsessed with the rock and grunge of the '90s, namely Smashing Pumpkins and The Foo Fighters, he's a Beatles man. He's a Zeppelin man. And he's a Rolling Stone's guy... So the poppy, electronic music of J-Lo is just oot his thing.

Having said that, Howard has been drawn to a few singles in recent years in the pop genre. But they usually have something more to say than Jennifer Lopez's music.

Back in 2011, Howard and his long-time Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers dissected J-Lo's smash-hit "On The Floor". As soon as he started listening to the beat, he started to laugh. Both he and Robin, who were watching the music video, thought that it was clear that Jennifer Lopez was doing everything she could to show herself off.

"This is a hit somewhere?" Howard joked.

Robin started to talk over the song, explaining its origins when Howard interrupted and sarcastically said, "Robin, you're ruining the song. It's so beautiful."

Specifically, Howard made fun of the song's pounding beat by saying, "That's the sound of me banging my head against the wall... in time to the music. Ouch!"

But it was Robin who made the claim that radio stations were reluctant to play it since she hasn't been on the charts for so long. But due to Jennifer judging American Idol at the time, her name was relevant so they sort of had to... The music video for the single even debuted on American Idol. A moment that Howard described as Jennifer being infatuated watching herself.

Howard also bashed J-Lo's 2019 Superbowl 2020 half-time show performance as well as Jimmy Fallon's praise of it. According to his radio show, Howard said he didn't believe Jimmy was serious about it and that he would talk some sense into him the next time they speak.

He Thinks She's WAY Too Into Herself

During an interview for America's Got Talent, when he was a judge, Howard slammed Jennifer's judging style when she was on Idol: "I think a lot of the judges are not so good at judging. They're more focused on promoting their career. You know, I was critical of, you know, J-Lo because I felt like she never said anything negative. And I felt like it helped her career. She suddenly went really far. She got back on the charts. The show was good for her and it became more about J-Lo."

At another time, according to E!, Howard said this of Britney Spears potentially becoming a judge on X-Factor:

"I don't anticipate great opinions from her. I think she's gonna sit there like J.Lo, 'Oh, you're wonderful, you're terrific. You think I can get a perfume endorsement out of this?'."

Howard's Personal Experience With J-Lo

Back when Jennifer Lopez was married to singer-songwriter Marc Anthony, and before her American Ido and her big comeback, she had a run-in with Howard Stern. The interaction took place at a private social gathering where a number of A-list celebrities were hanging out.

Howard has mentioned this interaction on his show numerous times over the years... So, it's clear that it's something he's still angry about.

Essentially what went down was that Jennifer Lopez snubbed Howard. While Howard said he was hanging out with Marc Anthony, who he really got along with, Jennifer wouldn't even give him the time of day.

Contrary to his on-air personality, Howard Stern actually has a tremendously positive reputation off-air. He's quite shy, socially insecure, but very personable and charitable... So, we can imagine that he tried to say hello and she shot him down.

This has fed into the already established reputation she has in Hollywood... being a tad snotty and a total diva.

Howard's dislike for J-Lo doubled when she was asked in an interview whether she found Howard attractive... Instead of saying anything, she made a face as if she were about to puke.

Ever since, Howard has wasted no time making fun of her attitude, music, and business endeavors whenever she comes up in a discussion on his show.
