Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie that ended up being his worst flop
Find out what was the film starring the bodybuilder who did not even cover his own expenses. This is why Schwarzenegger blames Clinton.
If it is about recognized celebrities around the world, it cannot be left out of the Arnold Schwarzenegger list. Throughout his 74 years, he has not only stood out as an actor on the big screen, but has drawn attention for his work as a politician, businessman, and even bodybuilder. It is true that in all those professional branches he has experienced great successes that catapulted him. But there is one project that was the worst failure of his career.
It was in 1993 when he decided to add a new piece to his filmography. It was about Last Action Hero, which in Latin America was known under the title of The Last Action Hero. The film consisted of an action comedy that basically featured a satire on the genre. Its protagonists were Austin O’Brien as Danny Madigan and Schwarzenegger as Jack Slater.
The plot revolved around a young man, a lover of action movies, who turned out to be a huge fan of the former bodybuilder. I mean, he was a fan of the fictional hero, as well as the actor. Last Action Hero had a peculiarity: with this feature film, Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to work under the direction of Jonn McTiernan, the director and protagonist of the hit Predator.
The investment was enormous: Columbia Pictures bet on the film with 85 million dollars. But the collection, greatly disappointed its protagonists. It is that both the specialized critics and the public, destroyed this production and had a terrible reception on their part, which years later would turn it into a cult film. The final collection was of 137 million dollars, proving to be a resounding failure that could not cover even his own expenses.
Far from blaming the director, the script or even his own performance, his protagonist assured that this huge disappointment in his career was a boycott. “That was the year you had to beat me up. It was one of the reasons President Clinton had been elected and the press made a political case here: "Well, the action heroes of the 1980s are over and here we have the perfect example." They wrote that without even having seen the movie, "he told Business Insider.
