When she returned, the “We Ca n’t Stop” singer was sporting a red jacket that she previously wore on the show. Cyrus apparently addressed the issue late in the broadcast.

“Thank you all very much, thank you. Tonight's show was about being flexible, taking the blows and making the best of even the worst of circumstances, ”she said. And that resilience shouldn't end here. Let's bring that into the new year with us. We have all learned to expect the unexpected, and instead of seeing it as a problem, let's see it as an opportunity. I wish everyone here in Miami and everyone watching from home a happy and healthy 2022. Thank you for making tonight possible. You really were everything I needed to have the best party.

Before the big event, the Hannah Montana alum and Saturday Night Live star, 28, teased the NBC special while appearing on Tonight's Show Starring Jimmy Fallon together.

"One thing that I think he focuses on in the New Year season is what is to come, being optimistic, having hope about all these things that have not happened yet and that we have no proof that will happen," said Cyrus the December 9. "We erase a bit everything that happened and we forget to honor it and look back as well."

With their New Years Eve party, Cyrus and the Meet Cute Star hoped to pay tribute to years gone by while also making the celebration feel fresh.

"I wanted to do something that was traditional, but I knew we would do it in a unique and unconventional way, and we did it starting with going to Miami," said the "Wrecking Ball" singer, jokingly: "He'll be funny, I'll be naked and together we will have a show «.

The "Malibu" musician also teased Davidson's relationship with Kim Kardashian, who first became involved with the comedian in late October. They confirmed their romance the following month amid their divorce from Kanye West.

Cyrus performed a rendition of Yvonnees' Fair 'It Should Have Been Me', but before she started singing, she trolled the King of Staten Island star romance, saying, “Pete Davidson, this song is for you! When I saw those photos, this is what I played.

The former Disney Channel star jokingly referenced Davidson and Kardashian's dizzying relationship - the two have been spotted in both New York City and California since they kissed on SNL in early October, while singing the tune.

“It should have been me. In that Lamborghini coming out of that nice ass restaurant. I want to see a movie on damn Staten Island, ”Cyrus sang.

Days before the New Year's Eve special, which was produced by Lorne Michaels, the "Climb" singer revealed that Davidson kept his promise to rehearse in Florida.

"He appeared. #MileysNewYearsEveParty #PeteDavidson, ”the Tennessee native captioned a series of photos via Instagram on Wednesday, December 29, while practicing for the big night.

Later, Cyrus posted a teaser clip of her and Davidson sharing her New Years resolutions via social media.

"I usually do one and then I don't follow it," the New York native said in the video. "So my New Years resolution this year is not to have one so I won't be disappointed again."

The "Party in the USA" singer, however, had a goal in mind for 2022, saying, "My New Year's resolution is not to see problems, but solutions." Davidson replied, "That's a really good Instagram quote!"
