Donald Trump’s oops moment! US Prez handshake ‘ignored’ by Poland’s First Lady
It was probably an innocent mistake but when you leave the US President hanging, it looks awkward. On his way to the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, Donald Trump made a stopover in Poland to exchange pleasantries with President Andrzej Duda and his wife, Agata Kornhauser Duda.
The US President is quite famous for his handshakes, even when he actually doesn’t do it. Netizens are always on a watch how Trump meets and greet dignitaries. He hit international headlines when he refused to shake hands with German Chancellor Angela Merkel during her visit to the White House. And not to forget his infamous handshake with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that inspired series of memes. And now, Trump has had another handshake debacle when the Poland’s First Lady declined to shake hands with the POTUS.
And surprisingly, the footage is going viral. The small clip shows Trump extending his hands towards Polish First Lady Agata Kornhauser -Duda, who outrightly ignores it and moves over to Melania Trump. Though she later come back to greet Trump, his visible discomfort is hard to ignore.
The 45th US president has described himself as ‘a germ freak’ and called handshakes ‘barbaric’. In his 1997 book The Art of the Comeback, Trump wrote he’d “often thought of taking out a series of newspaper ads encouraging the abolishment of the handshake”.
