Rihanna was born on February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados. His childhood was marked by his father's addiction to drugs and alcohol. His parents ended up divorcing the year he turned fourteen. Passionate about music from an early age, she was spotted in 2003 by producer Evan Rogers, when she took part in a singing competition. The latter makes him record a model of four songs in New York and Jay-Z, decides to make him sign a contract with Def Jam, the label which he manages at the time.
In August 2005, the singer released her first album, Music of the Sun, a mixture of reggae, R&B with a pop touch. It was a success: the album sold more than two million copies in the United States, where it was therefore certified platinum, as in Canada. Her first single, Pon de Replay, reached 2nd place on the Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna, to make herself known, provided the first part of Gwen Stefani's concerts at the time. On the occasion of the release of the album Good Girl Gone Bad in June 2007, the singer's stage outfits became more and more provocative. The album again met with immense success around the world. With eight million copies sold, it was the second best-selling album in 2008 in the United States and remained seven consecutive weeks number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. A year later, the singer released a reissue of Good Girl Gone Bad (Reloaded) with three unreleased tracks including Disturbia, co-written by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. During her world tour, the Good Girl Gone Bad Tour, Rihanna accentuates her dark side even more. In early 2011, Rihanna launched her first perfume, Reb'l Fleur. The same year, she posed in the American edition of Vogue magazine, and thus became the third black woman in history to make the cover (after Naomi Campbell and Halle Berry). Finally, on November 21, 2011, Rihanna released her sixth album, Talk Talk Talk. The result of several collaborations with Calvin Harris (the producer who notably worked for Kylie Minogue) and Jay-Z, his tone is a compendium of his last two albums. Rihanna thus becomes the artist with the greatest number of singles ranked in first position on the Billboard Hot 100. She is also the one who took the least time to win eleven number one titles on the Billboard Hot 100, and therefore dethroned Mariah Carey. On May 8, 2011, the singer put Where have you Been online and achieved a new record, with 4.7 million views in 24 hours.

On the private side, Rihanna dated rapper Chris Brown in 2008. But after a violent argument in February 2009 (the rapper was sentenced to 180 days of community service for assault and battery), the couple separated. The singer has since been very discreet about her private life. In August 2016, during the MTV Video Music Awards, rapper Drake declared his love for her on stage and kissed her. In January 2020, Rihanna and Hassan Jameel, a Saudi businessman, separated after three years of romance.
