'Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts': Emma Watson says it was 'horrible' kissing Rupert Grint
One of the moments that most fascinated the Potterheads was the kiss between Hermione and Ron in a very special location in history, but for Emma Watson it was one of the most horrible moments in her career.
Giving your first kiss in Harry Potter's secret chamber can't be that bad, it could even be a great anecdote for mortals, but for Emma Watson it was one of the worst experiences in her life because the one she was kissing was one of her best friends, Rupert Grint. This was confessed by the actress in the reunion special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
We have previously discussed the traumas and consequences that the recordings of Harry Potter left on its protagonists, including Daniel Radcliffe's alcoholism in the period of The Order of the Phoenix until he chose sobriety for the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but there is no trauma as great as Emma Watson's:
Obviously that kissing thing was the most horrible thing either of us has ever had to go through.
Rupert Grint did not take the comment badly, in fact he shared the feeling of regret. In the special, broadcast exclusively on HBO Max, you can see behind the scenes in which the actors are informed that the kiss scene will be recorded that week in the secret chamber. "What?! This week?" Watson replies, tormented by the material.
"It was supposed to be this dramatic kiss, but you and I kept extending it because we kept laughing," Watson explained at the meeting inside the Gryffindor common room. The actors confessed that they were very afraid that they would never be able to finish the scene because they could not take it seriously.
The bloopers featured in the special edition, you can see the shot being interrupted over and over because Watson and Grint can't even get their mouths close to each other's without bursting out laughing. Finally, the actress, also the protagonist of Little Women, steeled herself and was the one who approached her partner in fiction, and then the iconic kiss that we could see in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 happened.
And what was Daniel Radcliffe doing while all this was being recorded? Make the situation worse! The protagonist of the magical franchise created by J.K. Rowling behaved like "a complete idiot," she was told by production witnesses who witnessed her threats to go on set without a call, just to torture her co-stars.
