In 2009, a paparazzo managed to take pictures of John Mayer as he was breaking up with Jessica Simpson in a hotel in Cabo:
They started dating early in 2006 after she divorced Nick Lachey and she started falling in love with him early in the relationship, because of how differently he treated her when compared to her ex-husband:

The connection was so strong that he made me feel seductive, and he spoke about my body in a way that made me feel powerful. His focus on me was the opposite of my marriage. It felt safe to be so desired.
But after a while he started to change and breaking up with her multiple times for no apparent reason:
