Leonardo DiCaprio that struggled with (OCD) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a condition that Leonardo DiCaprio has claimed he suffers from.
Since he doesn’t want his disease to take over his life, the ‘Titanic’ star claims he needs to push himself not to tread on every chewing gum stain while walking and fights temptations to go through a doorway numerous times.
He stated, “I’m able to say at some point, ‘Okay, you’re being ridiculous, stop stepping on every gum stain you see. You don’t need to do that. You don’t need to walk 20ft back and put your foot on that thing. Nothing bad is going to happen.'”
OCD can drastically disrupt people’s lives, with obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors becoming difficult to ignore.
However, the Hollywood hunk claims that during filming his current film, ‘The Aviator,’ he let go of his tight grasp on his disease since his character, Howard Hughes, also suffered from the problem, which let him play his role more realistically.
“I let it all go and never listened to the other voice,” he claimed in an interview with Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.
‘I remember my make-up artist and assistant walking me to the set and going, ‘Oh God, we’re going to need 10 minutes to get him there because he has to walk back and step on that thing, touch the door and walk in and out again.’
“I let myself do it because I wanted that to come out. I was trying to be that character but it became really bothersome – and it continued way after the filming. I can talk myself through it, whereas Howard Hughes couldn’t do that and people with hard-core OCD can’t.”
Symptoms of OCD may appear and go as people avoid circumstances that trigger their obsessions.
OCD can strike women during pregnancy or after the birth of their child. Obsessions may include fears of injuring the baby or failing to properly sterilise feeding bottles, while compulsions may involve monitoring the baby’s breathing on a regular basis.
