Angelina Jolie reveals why she feared the n-ked bathtub scene in By The Sea
Angelina Jolie, the fearless actress, did not allow her vanity get the better of her during the making of By The Sea.
For Angelina Jolie, the toughest part while making By the Sea was to be strict with herself over n-ked scenes. She had a hard time deciding whether or not she should go head with the scene, because of her double mastectomy.
Angelina underwent the preventative procedure in 2013 after learning that she had an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene. Earlier this year, she got her ovaries removed too, to reduce her risk of ovarian cancer.
The 40-year-old directs and stars in the tense drama, opposite husband Brad Pitt, which follows a couple whose marriage is falling apart.
"There were lots of scenes I wanted to change or cut. I realised it was going to be me (n-ked) in that bathtub. But I told myself, 'Put all of that aside... You can't change or cut this scene because you've had a mastectomy, or because we're married and people are going to analyse this or that. That would be cheating'," she said. in a still from By The Sea.
Brad and Angelina made the movie while on their own honeymoon in Malta after tying the knot in France in August, 2014.
In an interview with Tom Brokaw on Today Show, the couple revealed how they battled Angelina's health scare and sailed through it.
Recalling the struggle, Brad Pitt said, "There was no vanity to my wife's approach. It was mature, 'This is our life and we're gonna make the best of it.' There was a strength in that. It was just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter, and she was doing it for the kids, and she was doing it for her family, so we could be together, and that trumps anything and everything."
