Johnny Depp can sue Amber Heard again over a new interview after the trial

After a long-drawn trial over the dual defamation suits filed by Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the jury reached a verdict on June 1. The jury found both Depp and Heard liable but awarded the former around $10 million and the latter $2 million in damages. However, after a post-trial interview in which Amber Heard said that the Pirates of the Caribbean star lied, experts believe she could be sued again.

In her interview with NBC, Amber Heard revealed that she stands by her testimonies on the stand during the trial. When asked if Johnny Depp's claim of never having hit her was a lie, Amber said, "Yes, it is."

Reacting to the post-trial interview, Nicole Haff, a lawyer based in New York told Daily Mail that Johnny Depp could sue Amber Heard again. She said, “Yes. This interview could count as a new ‘publication’ under the law, which could spur a third lawsuit."

The lawyer also added that Johnny shouldn't sue a third time as Amber's lawyer had already revealed that the Aquaman actress cannot pay him $10 million in damages.

Johnny Depp had sued Amber Heard over an op-ed published in the Washington Post in which she claimed to be a survivor of physical and sexual abuse. While she did not name Depp, the actor claimed he was defamed by the article and lost out on movie deals including the Fantastic Beasts franchise and the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The jury found that Heard did defame him and favoured the actor in their verdict.
