On the show Inside the Actors Studio, the actor referred to an episode of the second season.Breaking Bad is one of the best series of recent years. Released in 2008, the show created by Vince Gilligan and starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul spanned five successful seasons, earning the affection of many viewers throughout the world.
The story about Walter White, a chemistry teacher who ends up dedicating himself to the production and trafficking of methamphetamine, marked a before and after for Cranston, who a few years ago revealed which was the hardest scene to film.
In the program Inside the Actors Studio, the actor referred to chapter 12 of the second season - called "Phoenix" - which many will remember as the episode in which Jane Margolis (Krysten Ritter), Jesse Pinkman's girlfriend, dies. In this scene, Walter arrives at Jesse's house, who is sleeping next to his girlfriend, and tries to wake him up. However, his partner does not respond as a result of heroin use. At that moment, Jane - who was asleep on her side - moves and remains on her back.
Within a few minutes, the young woman begins to vomit and cough. Initially, Walter approaches her with the intention of helping her, but after thinking about it for a moment, he lets the young woman drown in her own vomit since she sees in her death the possibility that Jesse will focus on business again.
Regarding this moment, Cranston confessed:
“People don't understand that actors have to be willing to pay a price, an emotional price. When I thought about that scene, a lot of things came to mind. Walter hears Jane start to cough and immediately goes to her, instinctively. But before saving her he stops for a moment and thinks 'she's a junkie. She has dragged Jesse into heroin. She is going to kill him. It's better if I do nothing. But she is just a young girl. She young enough to be my daughter. And then I saw my own daughter's face in her place. I didn't want to do that, I hadn't planned it."
The actor concludes by talking about how Walter ends up torn between saving her or not and how, eventually, he decides that it's not her fault but hers, for having gotten involved with drugs. At that moment, the image of her daughter was completely erased and gave way to the decision to let her die.
While Walter did commit many despicable acts throughout the series, this was one of the most hated moments by fans, especially for the impact it had on Pinkman's life.
