Khalifa was born in Beirut (Lebanon), on February 10, 1993, emigrating to the United States with her family in 2000. At the end of 2014, at the age of 21, she began her career in the world of p-rn, becoming a global star. after starring in erotic scenes wearing the hijab, a veil that Muslim women use to cover their heads and shoulders.
Since then, the intimidation has been incessant and photomontages have circulated online showing Khalifa decapitated. ISIS even threatened her with death because of her videos. And at the beginning of 2015 Khalifa left the p-rn industry with 26 erotic scenes as her legacy.
Since then, Khalifa has tried to leave this stage of her life behind and currently works as a sports commentator and youtuber. In addition, she has denounced that many young actresses, including herself, enter the p-rn industry based on deception while the big producers profit.
In an interview with the BBC, Khalifa explained that she had made her own decisions, but now she felt that "that 21-year-old girl did not have the tools to identify that they were taking advantage of her." And she assured that coming from a very conservative culture she wanted to rebel thinking that this was going to be hers "her dirty little secret" of hers, but her popularity "exploded in her face".
Khalifa has tried unsuccessfully to remove videos of her from sites like P-rnhub, where they continue to amass millions of views and are periodically re-released to attract new followers. In fact, the profile of the former p-rn actress on the page has more than a million subscribers and her videos exceed 900 million views. But k-popers have decided to help her.
K-pop is a musical genre that includes various styles such as dance, hip hop, rap or rock, and basically refers to the popular music of South Korea. This week Khalifa confessed on her social networks that she was a fan of the K-pop group GOT7, winning the sympathy of her followers, the k-popers, who decided to organize an online campaign in her name. The idea is that all k-popers upload thousands of music videos or any other content tagging Khalifa, so that the p-rnographic results are buried.
On the other hand, she has viralized the hashtag #JusticeForMia as part of a petition on Change.org that is already close to a million and a half signatures. It requires that "they give Mia back the name of her website domain", "remove her videos from the internet" and "open a trial to fairly debate the case and that Mia does not have to spend countless amounts of money". Well, according to the creator of the initiative, Kia Flowers, Khalifa only received $12,000 for her videos while P-rnhub and the producer BangBros continue to make money.
"Major corporations are not giving Mia Khalifa a fair chance to enforce her content in court. She has already spoken out about how regretful she feels about her decisions in the p-rn industry," the statement posted on the petition explains, which ends with a quote from Khalifa: "I take 100% responsibility, but we must do something to prevent other girls from falling into the same trap as me."
This is not the first digital activism campaign by k-popers. A few days ago they boycotted Donald Trump by reserving tickets to his first election rally in Tulsa. His goal: for the president of the United States to speak before a half-deserted pavilion.
