Donald Trump's ex-wife, Marla Maples, once opened up about why their marriage didn't work out, admitting that they would sometimes get combative. However, Marla was careful not to speak ill of her son's father, as she has Tiffany Trump's best interests at heart.
Marla Maples, former beauty queen, and actress is the second wife of President Donald Trump and the mother of his daughter, Tiffany Trump.
A HIGHLY PUBLISHED DEAL
Maples became the spotlight as 'the other woman' when her relationship with Donald Trump hit the tabloids in 1989, while he was still married to his first wife, Ivana Trump.
The maples spent months hiding from the press in the homes of Trump's friends and even went to Guatemala to work with the Peace Corps for a while to escape the media frenzy.
'It was terrible. They wouldn't leave my family alone, 'Maples told People years later. “I wanted to fix everything. I like to fix things for people and suddenly there are all these stories. I couldn't keep up. '
Trump and Ivana eventually divorced in 1991, a year after Aspen's infamous match between wife and mistress.
FACE TO FACE
Trump was spending the holidays with Ivana and her three children in town, but he also took Marla, hoping Ivana wouldn't notice. But she did.
Ivana allegedly confronted Marla at a local restaurant, asking her to stay away from her husband because they had 'a happy marriage', as Marla recalled in an interview with Vanity Fair in 1990.
'I feel for her,' Marla said of Ivana at the time. And she continues:
“I think he must have known it in her heart; she wasn't about me. There would never have been any discussion of mine and Donald's friendship if things had gone well. I've been friends with him for so long and I've constantly told him, 'Stay and make it work. Don't give up on marriage, you have your children.
BOOKING AND WEDDING
Despite Marla's alleged intentions, she ended up marrying Trump in 1993, two months after giving birth to their only daughter: Tiffany Trump.
However, the marriage came at a time in Trump's life when his empire was collapsing after three of his casinos went bankrupt, according to Vanity Fair.
So, with Marla and her parents pushing him to marry - because having a child out of wedlock was frowned upon by the family - he agreed to marry on one condition: a very tight prenup agreement.
In the document, which Marla stalled to sign for months, it was stated that she would only get $ 1 million if they divorced within five years, plus another million to buy a house.
She would also stop paying child benefits once Tiffany turned 21, got a job, enlisted in the military or the Peace Corps.
They separated in 1997 and divorced in 1999. As part of the terms of their prenup, Marla is bound by a confidentiality agreement which states that she may not share any accounts or representations of their marriage.
BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WORK
However, after spending years out of the spotlight and raising her daughter all alone in California, Marla re-emerged in 2016 while her ex-husband was in the middle of his campaign.
She then visited Access Hollywood Live and talked a little bit about her ex about her, probably aware of what she can and cannot say about their relationship nearly two decades later.
Incidentally, Marla revealed that things didn't work out between her and Trump because they were so different that things could get a little combative at times.
She stated that she entered into a relationship with a Southern outlook on life and a strong sense of spiritual growth, while Trump, on the other hand, could make money and was more focused on other things.
She added:
'I think you always hope in marriage to bring out the best in each other, but after many years we realized we weren't. And then you have to move on. '
Maples also revealed that while she was drawn to Trump's 'swagger', she also believed he would help him change and 'make him a little softer'.
'I've seen a vulnerable man and I like people's vulnerability,' she added. Claiming that Trump has the ability to keep his dreams going, whatever they are, 'he's attractive,' she said.
ABOUT THEIR DAUGHTER TIFFANY
When interviewers pointed out that people think Trump is paying her not to speak ill of him, Marla made sure to say that she would never have anything negative to say about her son's father.
But she said I disagree on a lot of things. If so, they would still be married.
As for Tiffany, now 26, Marla told people a few years ago that she always did that by encouraging her to build a relationship with her her father, her stepbrothers and Trump's two other wives, Ivana and Melania.
'I just said that it is important for her to establish her relationship with him, without my input,' she said. 'I wanted to create some coherence where he could see it.' S.
As of today, Marla Maples remains single, even though she had a short-lived romance with 'The Bachelor' star Andy Baldwin in 2008.
She now lives in New York and has continued her acting career, also focusing on helping others by sharing her views on wellness, fitness and healthy eating on her social media accounts.
