'I didn't say no to any of it': Nicole Kidman says she was 'at the forefront' of artistic n-dity on camera thanks to her racy role in Eyes Wide Shut with then-husband Tom Cruise
With an acting career spanning decades, Nicole Kidman has played all kinds of characters.
Some of the star's roles have included n-dity and s-x scenes, with the most notable being Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.
The erotic thriller, released in 1999, saw Nicole in full-frontal n-de scenes, in addition to multiple s-x scenes with then-husband Tom Cruise.
Speaking to the New York Times about her n-dity on screen, Nicole praised the Stan series Normal People for artistically portraying s-x on camera before opening up about Eyes Wide Shut.
'I was probably at the forefront of this, when I went to work with director Stanley Kubrick,' she said.
'He was like, "I'm going to want full frontal n-dity," and I was like, "Ahh, I don't know."'
'So we came up with a great agreement, which was contractual. He would show me the scenes with the n-dity before they made it into the film. Then I could feel completely safe.
'I didn't say no to any of it. I'd wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to be me standing there n-de and everyone laughing at me.'
The flame-haired actress said that she felt 'protected' on set and was able to confidently explore all aspects of the role without compromising the storytelling.
'Having them say, "Once you're okay with it, great, that's it" – what a fantastic place to be in as a woman,' she added.
Nicole's latest role in the HBO miniseries The Undoing also contains artistic love scenes, according to early reviews.
The Undoing is based on the 2014 novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, which reunites Nicole with her Big Little Lies collaborator David E. Kelley.
Nicole and co-star Hugh Grant play the happily married couple Grace and Jonathan Fraser, who are living their best lives when their world is rocked by a violent death.
The death leads to a chain of 'terrible revelations' as Grace becomes a suspect in the grisly death in a very public way.
The six-episode limited series also stars Edgar Ramirez as Detective Joe Mendoza, Noah Jupe as Henry Fraser, Jonathan and Grace's precocious and artistic 12-year-old son and Lily Rabe as Sylvia Steinetz
After an initial delay caused by COVID-19, The Undoing will premiere in Australia on October 26.
