How Cara Delevingne Fed Up With Hiding Her Psoriasis Skin And Seeks To Normalize It By Showing It Off

In times when the parameters of what is known are being broken and people's voices are increasingly heard, there are artists who use their recognition to normalize what was previously taboo. Cara Delevingne is an example of this, since in a world of aesthetic "perfection", she decided to show her skin with psoriasis after having hidden it for years to teach us that what is different is not strange, but unique.

At Bright Side, we are inspired by those who stand up to standards, that's why we want to tell you about the struggle of the former model and current actress, who learned to love her illness and wear it as another beauty accessory.

Destined for success

She was born in 1992, into an aristocratic London family, and she found her calling, modeling, in 2011, when she became the face of the Burberry brand. She then went on to walk the runways of the industry's biggest brands including H&M, Zara, Chanel, Moschino, Jason Wu, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Stella McCartney.

Her profession complicated her psoriasis

All success has a dark side to it, and not all that glitters is gold. Cara's experience attests to that. She suffers from psoriasis, a skin disease that causes red, scaly patches to break out on her knees, elbows, trunk and scalp. The work demand of modeling and the stress she experienced made her condition worsen:

"Fashion Week is, of course, the worst time of year for me to be covered in scabs," she admitted, referring to her breakouts having to be made up to hide them. "The makeup artists would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was leprosy or something," she confessed.

She also had other health problems

Psoriasis was not the only thing that compromised her well-being. As a child, she suffered from dyspraxia, a neural condition that affects movement and coordination, which negatively impacted her school performance. In her adolescence she also suffered from depression: "I was suddenly hit by a massive wave of depression, anxiety and self-hatred," she confessed.

Also, although she found solace in modeling, this quickly backfired on her, as she made her feel empty, and she also said that she didn't make her grow as a human being. She even became uncomfortable with her body: "If you hate yourself, your body and the way you look, it gets worse and worse." It was for this reason that she decided to leave modeling and dedicate herself to acting.

Her sufferings made her stronger

“Now I am very good at defending myself and other people. [...] If there is injustice, I will be angry. If someone is crossing the line, they will know it and everyone else will too, ”she said, and true to her principles, she knew how to show it. Recently, she showed off her psoriasis skin to the world by posing for the cameras at the Met Gala, seeking to normalize her condition.

Another celebrity, Kim Kardashian, also suffers from it, and has confessed: "I have learned to live with my psoriasis and not feel insecure with it."

To the help of others

In addition to wanting to naturalize her condition so that more people who suffer from it feel sure of themselves, the actress uses her Instagram account to participate in social actions related to various problems, such as cyberbullying, climate change, excessive use of Photoshop , among many others, to show that she is more than just a pretty face.

What would you like to stop being taboo and everyone would normally accept that it exists?
