The Duchess of Sussex premiered the first episode of what will be the radio program where she addresses issues around social stereotypes that fall on women
Archetypes or "archetypes" is the name given to Meghan Markle's podcast that premiered today, August 23, along with her first guest, the now-retired tennis player, Serena Williams, promising that in the series, the two participants "We dissect, explore and subvert the labels that try to hold women back."
The radio show will arrive every week, after Markle, and her husband, Prince Harry, signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Spotify, where content created by the Duchess of Sussex will be published exclusively. Partnering with Spotify, Archewell Audio, the production company behind the project, noted that it was “committed to producing shows that uplift and entertain audiences around the world; highlights diverse perspectives and voices; and builds a community through shared experiences, narratives and values”
In her debut episode she also spoke with Dr. Laura Cray, a UC Berkeley professor and expert on gender in the workplace. Markle will hold "uncensored conversations" with guests including celebrities, historians and experts on the subject, to explore the origin of stereotypes and their influence on culture through the years. Apparently, the second edition of it will feature an appearance by Mariah Carey.
Markle and Williams reflect on ambition from a young age, the pressures they felt in their role as mothers and their career balance that exposes them to the public eye, in addition to commenting on the tennis player's decision to retire from her star sport and explore new fields and experiences, such as writing for the renowned fashion magazine, Vogue.
Produced by Archewell Audio in collaboration with Spotify's Gimlet Media, Archetypes, in addition to being hosted by Markle, also serves as executive producer alongside Terry Wood and Catherine Cyr.
The program will delve into "how we talk about women: the words that educate our daughters and how the media reflects us women," Markle specifies in the trailer for the series. “But where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up to define our lives?
