Actor Tom Cruise hasn't always been one to stay calm and hide his thoughts. The Mission Impossible star lashed out at the production team on his last film in 2020, due to some on set reportedly refusing to wear masks amid a global pandemic.
Although the recording of the actor yelling at the production crew went viral, the actor has yet to apologize for his tone (which may be due in large part to the strong support from fans and other celebrities in complaining about him). But in 2006, the actor apologized for another earlier outburst of harsh opinions from him, and this time it was with Brooke Shields.
The Blue Lagoon actress revealed on The Tonight Show to then-host Jay Leno that Cruise personally came to Shields' house to give a "sincere apology" after he publicly criticized her.
"Through it all, I was really impressed with how candid he was," Shields said (via People). "And I didn't feel at any point that I had to defend myself, nor did I feel like he was trying to convince me of anything other than the fact that he was deeply sorry. And I accepted it."
So what was the reason for the sincere apology? Cruise had made some harsh comments about Shields' health.
Tom Cruise called Brooke Shields 'irresponsible'
Feuds between celebrities have come and gone in Hollywood, but rash comments between Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields in 2006 thankfully ended in an apology.
The Top Gun actor personally apologized to Shields after criticizing her the previous year for using medication for postpartum depression, according to People. In 2016, Shields told Jenny McCarthy that Cruise had called her and said, "'I'd like to sit down and talk to you.'" And that was what they did.
It all started when Cruise told Access Hollywood, according to People, that Shields' use of antidepressants was "irresponsible" and that "when someone says (the medication) has helped them, it's coping, it doesn't cure anything." There is no science. There is nothing that can cure it at all."
The comments weren't all that surprising, considering Cruise is a devout member of the Church of Scientology, which condemns the use of "mind-altering prescriptions," according to People. "I care about Brooke Shields because I think she's an incredibly talented woman, (but she) she looks at where her career has gone," Cruise said.
The actress didn't take kindly to the comments ahead of the apology, telling People, the actor should "stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them." We're glad they've patched things up since then.
