These celebrities were gradually losing the recognition they once had
In the world of Hollywood many actors and actresses were excluded from the market overnight. A single comment, a bad role or a negative or rude attitude were enough to cut short their careers forever.
Here, the list of stars who -despite having starred in great hits- have not managed to survive scandals and accusations:
1.- Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp went from being one of Disney's biggest stars to a punching addict accused of abusing his wife.
The actor met Amber Heard on the set of The Rum Diary, a film based on a book by writer and journalist Hunter S. Thompson. They began dating in late 2011 in what she described as her secret relationship because she did not want to be blamed for the breakup of French actor and singer Vanessa Paradis.
But 5 years later it all ended in scandal. In May 2016, Heard filed for divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean lead. Days later, she obtained a restraining order after declaring in court that she was the victim of verbal and physical abuse during her marriage. In addition, she presented a photograph that was leaked in different media, where injuries are observed on her face as evidence of an attack by the actor.
In a desperate quest to clean up his image, Depp sued The Sun newspaper, which in 2018 had called him a "wife beater." At the London trial, the British tabloid's star witness was her ex-wife Amber Heard, who called Depp a "monster" and accused him of having put her through hell during their years together.
This scandal left him out of the third installment of Fantastic Animals and Disney no longer wants him to play the mythical Captain Jack Sparrow again.
2.- Armie Hammer
The actor is recognized for having starred in memorable films such as Call me by your name, by Luca Guadagnino, or Rebecca, one of Netflix's biggest hits in 2020. However, his career took a 360 degree turn when the news leaked. scandalous messages that he exchanged with his lovers.
“I am 100% cannibal. I want to eat you. Shit ***, it's scary to admit it”, “What if I wanted to cut off your toe to keep it in a pocket and always carry a piece of you with me?” are some of the messages that the actor sent through direct messages from Instagram to their partners and that were leaked on social networks.
The actor has distanced himself from the accusations and his participation in Shotgun Wedding, the romantic film by Jennifer Lopez, as well as the Paramount + series, The Offer, about the making of the film The Godfather, has been cancelled. Furthermore, in February 2021 he was fired from the WME agency. The last thing that is known about him is that he entered rehab.
3.- Ellen DeGeneres
The television host surprised the public by announcing the cancellation of her show Ellen in 2022. No official explanations were given for the decision, but it is speculated that the news could be linked to the scandal that she starred in months ago, which included accusations of racism and abuse internal to the work team.
“It was all a bit like The Devil Wears Fashion. We were just trying to make it to the end of the year. It was a good badge on the resume and that's why we endured, ”she denounced a former employee of the show about DeGeneres.
Although not all this drama was due to the attitude of the 62-year-old presenter, dozens of former employees of the show claim to be aware that she was aware of it and did nothing about it to avoid it.
4.- Kevin Spacey
The actor was recognized for his impeccable performance in the Netflix production: House of Cards, as well as in Django Unchained, Die Hard 2 and John Wick: Chapter 2, however between 1995 and 2013, 20 men denounced him for s-xual harassment and abuse , which caused the actor's career to plummet for a while.
Spacey was removed from House of Cards in 2017. In that year, Anthony Rapp accused him of s-xually abusing him when he was 14 years old. Over time, this complaint gave rise to many others as part of the #MeToo movement, which went viral on social media.
At that time, the streaming platform announced that it would no longer work with it. Currently, the actor must pay USD 31 million to the producer of the House of Cards series, Media Rights Capital (MRC), after a private arbitrator from the United States reached the conclusion that the interpreter breached his contract by violating the company s-xual harassment policy.
5.- Gina Carano
The actress and ex-wrestler, who played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Star Wars: The Mandalorian series, from Disney +, accumulated controversy on the networks due to her controversial comments.
“Jews were beaten up in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children. Because the story is edited, most people don't realize that in order to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jewish. How is this different from hating someone because of her political ideas? ”, Read a post shared by the actress on her official Instagram account.
Days after Gina's post went viral, Lucasfilm announced that the actress would no longer be a part of future seasons of The Mandalorian. "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future [...] However, her messages on social media denigrating people for their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable," said the company in a statement.
6.- Vince Vaughn
The actor became popular as the sidekick to Owen Wilson, Jon Favreau and Ben Stiller, with whom he has starred in some of his best-known comedies. Balls in play, Starsky & Hutch, Los Rompedas or Sólo para parejas, are just some of the films that gave him the status of world star. He was once one of the funniest men in Hollywood, however, he was embroiled in several scandals and his career went on "indefinite hiatus."
Vaughn went viral in 2015 after emphatically stating that having guns at school should be a right. In an interview with the British edition of GQ magazine, the actor defended his argument by stating that "banning guns to prevent violence is like banning forks to prevent people from getting fat." “Do you think that the politicians of your country and mine do not have weapons in their children's schools? They have them,” he declared.
The actor also stressed that most of the major shootings that have rocked the US since 1950 have taken place "in places where weapons were prohibited." “These people are out of their minds and looking to kill innocent people, so over and over again these guys shoot up schools because they know there are no guns there,” he said.
His controversial statements angered several Hollywood production companies and since then he has not been part of any other major cast.
Now, several years later, his name is ringing again and it is even rumored that he is in talks with director David Dobkin to make a sequel to the hit 2005 comedy The Wedding Breakers for HBO Max.
7.- Keanu Reeves
The actor and protagonist of the Matrix saga began to make himself known with the film Forge of Champion, in the 80s, along with Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze, two contemporaries of that generation, which included Christian Slater, Ethan Hawke or the Late River Phoenix.
Keanu's problems started when he starred in the movie Speed. At that time, the actor declared multiple times that he was very proud of the first installment, but he always found an excuse not to do the sequel... The actor's constant slights made the producer, 20th Century Fox furious, and since then he has not returned to participate for any of their projects.
