Have been removed from Chinese streaming platforms such as Tencent Video, Youku and Migu Video after the actor's public support
More than a dozen Keanu Reeves movies have been pulled from Chinese streaming services. Among them is Among them, Tencent Video, Youku and Migu Video. And all as a consequence of the public support that the actor has offered to Tibet since the beginning of this year, according to Variety magazine.
The final consequence is that Reeves (along with Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, Cindy Lauper and others) confirmed his participation in the Tibet House virtual charity concert, which will be taking place this year.
In China they have taken action, since at least 19 films that have the participation of Reeves have been withdrawn from streaming platforms.
What's more, there is only one exception, and it is Toy Story 4, a film in which Keanu offers the voice of him to the character Duke Caboom. However, his name has been removed from the credits.
Since The Matrix trilogy, Speed has also been withdrawn, as has Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Something's Gotta Give and The Lake House also join the list. So far, it is unknown who ordered the removal of the films, although the Times comments that it could be due to "regulatory bodies in China or platforms that acted preemptively to remove potentially problematic content."
