However, they do not need to make a hasty decision as there is no RSVP deadline included in the official invitations. This information was provided by Dr. George Gross, a visiting research fellow in Theology at King’s College London.
He explained that in previous eras, attendance at such events was mandatory upon receiving a summons, but nowadays it is different. As it is unclear if all the invitations have been sent out, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have plenty of time to decide. Additionally, as they have been allocated seats in the royal box, there is some flexibility in their attendance.
Dr. Gross further explained that there is always some room for flexibility, especially in case of last-minute cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances such as health issues. He emphasized that the royal box provides more flexibility and that there is always some space available for relatives of the King.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed that they have received the invitation but have not yet RSVP-ed. Therefore, they have not made a final decision about their attendance at the Coronation ceremony.
