According to his memoir "Spare," King Charles III wanted Prince Harry to speak to him before leaving Britain and advised him against releasing a rash statement.
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were still considering leaving the country in 2019, Charles sent Harry a long email saying that no decision could be taken before a private meeting with him.
Harry writes that they were planning to return to Britain in a few days to see the Queen and asked when they could meet Charles. However, Charles was in Scotland and couldn't get there before the end of January.
He hoped that they could have further conversations without it becoming a public circus, and warned Harry that he would be disobeying orders from the monarch and himself if he persisted in his course of action before they had a chance to sit down and discuss everything.
