According to his memoir "Spare," Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were
interested in taking their royal responsibilities away from Britain and
relocating to New Zealand or South Africa.
Harry reveals that their 2019 Vancouver trip helped him realize they needed time away from the media.
He wrote about wanting to spend at least part of each year somewhere far away, still working for the Queen but beyond the reach of the press.
They wanted to be free from the British press, drama, and lies, as well as the supposed "public interest" that was used to justify the frenzied coverage of them.
Harry mentioned considering New Zealand and South Africa as potential destinations, with the latter being closer to his conservation work and 18 other Commonwealth countries.
