The Duchess of Sussex was motivated by her desire to shield her friends from tabloid headlines, which is why she worked tirelessly to safeguard their identities.
In his memoir, Prince Harry explained how the Mail had tried to defend themselves by arguing that they had printed Meghan's letter to her father because of a story in People magazine that quoted a few of her friends anonymously.
The tabloids claimed that Meghan had orchestrated the quotes, using her friends as de facto spokespeople, and as a result, the Mail had every right to publish her letter to her father. They even went as far as requesting the names of Meghan's previously anonymous friends be read into the official court record in order to harm them.
Despite this, Meghan was determined to do everything possible to prevent her friends from being exposed and harmed by the tabloids.
