Royal author Sally Bedell Smith criticized the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for promoting the importance of privacy while frequently compromising their own with interviews and other projects. Smith commended Prince William and Kate Middleton for setting boundaries and preserving a zone of privacy.
In an interview with Newsweek's The Royal Report podcast, Smith remarked, "But, you know, I can't help thinking that Harry and Meghan are so obsessed with privacy—and they're constantly violating their own privacy with interviews and obviously Harry's book."
Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have given several interviews, including to Oprah Winfrey in 2021, and have released a podcast and a memoir.
