The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently held a private christening ceremony for their daughter at their home in Montecito, California, which was attended by close family members and friends, including Meghan’s mother and the toddler’s godfather.
According to hosts of the Pod Save The King podcast, Zoe Forsey and Russell Myers, royal christenings are considered to be significant events, with religion playing a central role for the monarchy. The absence of the King at the christening of Princess Lilibet was noted as a disappointment, given his position as head of the Church of England.
However, Myers suggested that the Sussexes may attend King Charles’ Coronation with their family, as they want their children to maintain a connection with the Royal Family. Forsey also suggested that the couple may choose to hold a ‘blessing’ for the christening if they return to the UK in May, similar to events held for royal weddings.
It remains to be seen whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will attend the Coronation and the ‘blessing’ for Princess Lilibet, as they are still said to be contemplating their decision.
