During the interview, the LA Confidential actress discussed the challenges of co-parenting with Alec, who she says was not emotionally or mentally available for tough conversations, calling him "a challenge."
When asked by host Jada Pinkett Smith if she and Alec were able to see "eye to eye" on how to handle their daughter Ireland's anxiety issues, Kim responded with a laugh, saying, "No. No, that was not – Alec’s a funny one."
Kim's daughter, Ireland, also spoke up during the interview, sharing that her father also deals with anxiety but handles it differently. She noted that he grew up in a family that would suppress those feelings or label him as weak for having them. Despite this, Ireland acknowledged that her father has been forced to confront these issues in recent years.
Kim and Alec's divorce was reportedly very contentious, with a bitter custody battle over their daughter Ireland, who was born in 1995. At the time, Kim's father attributed the divorce to Alec's short temper and uncontrollable anger.
The couple's split was followed by years of accusations, over $3 million in legal fees, and an infamous voicemail in which Alec called his daughter a "rude little pig." However, the court eventually awarded them joint custody of their daughter.
Alec has since remarried and is currently expecting his eighth child with his wife, yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas. Despite the challenges, Kim maintains that they are all "fine" and get along for the sake of their daughter.
